WE ARE NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS, KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY SAFE SINCE 1932.

Fire and EMS service is some of the most diverse and challenging vocations today. It is this diversity that attracts most men and women to join our ranks. Everyone becomes a volunteer for their own set of reasons––action oriented people enjoy the excitement and adrenaline rush that emergency services have to offer, community oriented folks like the feeling they get when they help people in their time of need and some feel it’s their obligation to serve their neighbors. Yet, others just want to belong to something bigger than themselves.

Whatever motivates you to join our vital team – everyone gains the selfsatisfaction of being at their best when others are dealing with what is often the worst that life has to offer.

Our Requirements

We are continuously seeking new members to join our department as volunteer firefighters, emergency medical technicians and administrative/support personnel, who wish to serve Accokeek and our surrounding communities.

Process to Join

2. The departments Recruitment Coordinator will contact you to discuss initial steps.

Initial steps typically include an initial firehouse visit, may include a ride along and more.

4. Get a background check

Together with the Recruitment Coordinator you will complete a Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department volunteer application package, which includes electronic fingerprinting to complete a full criminal background check.

5. Once you clear your criminal background check, you’ll schedule a standard physical exam.

Volunteers seeking to be Firefighter/EMTs, EMTs or Paramedics must pass this exam to continue in the process.

6. After passing your physical, your department will coordinate your initial training.

Training includes a one-week (four evenings) Volunteer Recruit School in Bowie — followed by scheduling your initial EMT and/or Firefighter I training. Fire/EMS members must complete both Firefighter I and EMT within 30 months of joining — EMS members must complete EMT within 18 months of joining a department
